Rebuild service for Left Main Lift Cylinder Mercedes R170 SLK-Class

New product

Mercedes part number A 170 800 05 72.

$75 for Standard Rebuild Service, where you send in your cylinder first to be rebuilt.

Optional core exchange (where we ship a part first from our inventory) is $115 plus $120 deposit.

Top Hydraulics replaces and upgrades all port seals (where the hoses go in), the cup-shaped rod seal and the piston seal. Top Hydraulics' rebuilt cylinders are far superior on the inside to new parts from the dealer, at a small fraction of Mercedes' list price!

For optional core exchange, select YES in the drop down menu above.

Core exchange means that you get rebuilt parts from Top Hydraulics' inventory first, and then you send back your original parts for a refund of your core deposit of $120. For a full core refund, parts must be in good condition except for leaking seals.

R170 SLK-Class | Years: 1998-2003/2004

Part number A 170 800 05 72

Using the most advanced seal material and seal geometry - no o-rings or Nitrile used in Top Hydraulics' rebuilds! You get the best parts on the market.

This is the main vario roof actuator on the driver side, next to the roll bar. It is highly recommended to upgrade these cylinders in pairs.

Early model years (98 and 99) have curved fittings at the hose ends that attach to the hydraulic pump. Mercedes started using straight fittings in 2000. Both versions are fully interchangeable and equal in value.

Please note that the hydraulic lines must be attached and intact on the cylinders that you send to us. Top Hydraulics can now replace hydraulic lines, but there would be an additional charge of $100 per line.

Please note that it is highly advisable to upgrade the trunk cylinders and the main lift cylinders in pairs. When considering the labor involved in removing one cylinder compared to a full set of cylinders, it is usually best to have all cylinders upgraded at the same time. The reason is, the majority of the labor involved is in removing access panels, and once the panels are removed, it is comparatively not much more work to remove all cylinders at once. Remember, the rebuild service for all cylinders at once costs about as much as a single replacement cylinder, and you get a much better product...

Top Hydraulics offers two options for upgrading cylinders for Mercedes convertible tops.

For Rebuilding Your Cylinders:  Once we receive your cylinders, the turn around time is up to two business days for rebuild service and we will ship the cylinders back to you by Priority U.S. Mail (2-3 days delivery time).

To order with Core Exchange:  Core deposits will be refunded in full if we receive your matching cores within 30 days, the cylinder rods are unscratched, and the hydraulic lines are intact. This option may not always be available, depending on stock. A small "rental charge" may apply if the cores get returned later than 30 days from receipt - we will typically give you a generous grace period.

Seals used by Top Hydraulics, Inc. include Viton™ and Teflon™-hybrid seals, as well as enhanced Polyurethane material, which far exceed the OEM's requirements for rigidity, but provide at least double the service life for your convertible car top actuators, based on scientific test data.

About the port seals:
At the age of the original parts, it is essential that the port seals (where the hoses go into the cylinder housing) get replaced. Of course, we are replacing them with a far superior version. Replacing the port seals requires some fancy machining and extra parts:

On the main lift cylinders, we machine out the crimps in the aluminum cylinder housing, create a clear mounting surface and tap holes for clips, then we finally re-fasten the hydraulic lines with laser-cut, stainless steel clips.

In the end, you get parts from us that are far better than new ones inside at a fraction of Mercedes' list price.
